JoyRide: Art on Wheels Opening Dec 13

JoyRide: Art on Wheels

Opening Friday, December 13

Rev up your creativity in our JoyRide: Art on Wheels exhibition! Located in our Whiteman Family Gallery and tailored especially for young minds and their families, take a journey through the world of wheels, including lowriders, tricked-out wheelchairs, skateboards, bikes and more.

Experiences and Activities

JoyRide: Art on Wheels is designed to be both educational and entertaining. It encourages children to explore the mechanics and artistry of wheels in a hands-on, engaging way. The exhibition aims to inspire young minds to think creatively and see everyday objects from new perspectives. See below for just some of the experiences and activities in JoyRide: Art on Wheels.

Build Your Dream Skatepark

Using toy-sized skateboards, you can design ramps, rails and more, creating the ultimate miniature skatepark.

Community Art Project

Get involved in a community art project where you can contribute to a large-scale weaving installation using bike wheels. This collaborative artwork will grow throughout the exhibition, showcasing the collective creativity of all its visitors.

Custom Skateboards

Over twenty custom skateboards will line the walls of the exhibit, each showcasing the unique style of various artists including visual artist Maxxine Valentine, father and son duo Such and Champ Styles and Mesa-local Efrain ‘Bugs’ Gonzales. Their diverse mediums include painting, ceramics, neon lights and more.

Truck Bed Reading Nook

After exploring the interactive experiences, take a break in the cozy reading nook in an ingeniously built 1980s Ford truck bed. This space is furnished with plush cushions, creating a perfect spot to unwind.

LEGO Printing Press

Engage in the LEGO Printing Press, a hands-on activity where you and your little one can create your own designs using LEGO pieces. Once you’ve built your design, transfer it onto special paper to create a unique print, just like a real printing press! This activity is inspired by Mexican artist Betsabee Romero, who uses tires to make unique prints and sculptures.
