The City of Mesa honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. annually with a parade in downtown Mesa, which this year takes place beginning at 11 a.m. Jan. 20. The parade route starts on Center Street near MLK Way and concludes at 1st Street and Robson, just north of the i.d.e.a Museum. The celebration will include Mesa City Councilmembers, marching bands, community leaders and organizations.
Museum Happenings
The Arizona Museum of Natural History, located at 53 N. Macdonald, will be open during the holiday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The museum has dinosaurs that roar and so much more. Visitors can explore the Lost Dutchman’s mine, wander through an ancient Hohokam village or take a selfie with a T. rex. There is something exciting for everyone.
The i.d.e.a. Museum will offer a bonus hour, opening 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the holiday. At the i.d.e.a. Museum, guests can enjoy imaginative and creative experiences in ArtVille and the HUB Gallery. They are encouraged to journey into current art exhibition, Weather or Not: Art with Atmosphere, which has been extended a day. There, visitors will experience the wonder and artistry of weather through hands-on activities.
Discount Admission
Half price admission at AZMNH is $3.50 for children ages 3-12 and $6 for adults; museum members are free. At the i.d.e.a. Museum, half price admission is $4.50 for everyone ages 1 and up; museum members are free.
