Discover art and nurture creative thinking with your family during International Museum Day. The i.d.e.a. Museum will offer 2-for-1 admission* and special art activities on Saturday, May 18, in recognition of the day.
“The i.d.e.a. Museum is a first museum experience for young children and a doorway to an adult’s inner creativity,” said i.d.e.a. Museum Executive Director Sunnee O’Rork. “Celebrating International Museum Day by providing the opportunity to bring a friend or family member encourages a social activity that is fun, educational and engaging.”
Special Art Activities
During the event, several art stations will be set up around the museum. Join us creating:
- Popsicle Stick Frames in the Art Studio
- Plein Air (outdoor/landscape) Painting in the Atrium
- Exhibition Design Activity in the Design our World center of the HUB
See Junkyard Jungle before it ends
Visitors also may enjoy hands-on activities featured in Junkyard Jungle, which comes to an end May 26. The exhibition features beautiful artworks featuring found objects and recycled materials that celebrate the beauty of rainforest creatures and other wildlife, as well as showcases the importance of taking care of planet Earth.
Other hands-on activities
For young visitors 0 to 4 years old and their caregivers, ArtVille – a socks-only space – provides a variety of stimulating activities. These include playing with pixels and gears in the Wee Design room; using imagination in Art’s library, café, vet clinic and garden; acting out a play in the Performing Art Center and building with soft blocks in the main space.
Children of all ages will find the HUB filled with activities that encourage creative thinking and promote design principles. Come build a new invention with Rigamajig; create a masterpiece using technology in iArt and create music in In Harmony. Plus, don’t miss the jungle-themed black light room, which is great for imaginary play.
