Introducing Celena Gammon. She’s one of our friendly Visitor Services team members you see at the front desk when you come to the museum. She joined our team in December 2019.
Get to know Celena!
What does your job entail at the museum? I’m a Visitor Services Assistant. I check people into the museum and help guests out.
What do you love most about working at the museum and the work you do? I love being able to see the guests’ excitement when seeing the exhibits and when they’re creating their own art pieces.
In your opinion, how does the museum nurture creative thinking, support early learning, and engage families in spending quality time together? There are various activities that the young ones can engage with and learn more about particular topics. There are lots of hands-on activities that everyone can be creative with and build together. The adults can help their little ones be creative and have fun!
Do you consider yourself an artist? If so, what’s your medium? I would consider myself a wannabe artist, haha! I enjoy painting with acrylics or watercolors, and I also like taking pictures.
What is your favorite piece of art or artist? It’s hard to list a favorite, but I really do like Yayoi Kusama’s “You Who Are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies” and Oscar Oiwa’s “Journey to the Light.”
What was your favorite toy/activity as a child? I LOVED solving puzzles (and I still do to this day).
When you’re not at the museum… I’m probably at a cafe, another museum, or at home reading/watching TV.
Say hi to Celena the next time you’re in!
